The Program

Wishlist Program

Wishlist features let shoppers save items they're interested in without committing to buy right away: for gift planning, price tracking, or simply deciding later. It's become a standard expectation across ecommerce, closely tied to features like back-in-stock and price-drop alerts that bring shoppers back at the right moment.

Where Wishlist is active, it works: median Wishlist revenue is $9,821 per store over the last 6 calendar months.

The storefront widget is the foundation

Nearly all of the revenue in our sample came from the on-site experience: the storefront widget accounts for 96% of Wishlist-attributed revenue, driven by shoppers saving items as they browse. That is the baseline every store gets simply by having Wishlist live on the storefront. The alert emails sit on top of it. Back-in-stock notifications add a median of 8.5% additional revenue on top of storefront revenue, and price-drop alerts (items on sale) add another 8.6%, for the stores that use them. Both are a toggle and an email template away, worth the 30 minutes it takes to turn on.

Wishlist value compounds with scale

Larger, more established stores see the strongest results. Shopify Plus stores generate a median of $15,980 in Wishlist revenue, compared to $2,973 for Grow-plan stores, a pattern consistent with what we saw elsewhere in this report: loyalty and engagement features compound in value as a store's customer base grows.

Our data

Across 227 Shopify stores, median Wishlist-attributed revenue was $9,821 per store over the last 6 calendar months. 96% of that came from the on-site widget alone, the revenue a store earns just by letting shoppers save items. Back-in-stock and price-drop alerts, which most stores in the sample had only partly configured, are the layer that sits on top of it.
